Huzzah!

Monty found a strap somewhere, I'm assuming my closet, and it's his new favorite toy. This is just about as active as he gets, so this is him have the time of his life.

Sign the Rabbit

I had my ASL Final Story presentation today. We had to give a three minute story in ASL in front of the class. I practiced yesterday, I practiced while I waited for my toast to cook, I pinned a copy up in the shower and practiced, I practiced at the stop lights and I practiced in the... well you get the picture. I practiced my fingers off. Here's to you, Monty, and you're now infamous status in my class since we learned the sign for "rabbit".

Walkies

I took myself for a walk today, which means I must have a TON of homework I'm subconsciously (or not) putting off. Week ten is just around the corner. I have two presentations to do tomorrow, and essay on Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass due tonight and two final projects due next week. PLUS potlucks galore. And then a little later there's always the teacher, class and self-evals to do. Busy busy busy.
So, I took a walk.
I went to the park across the street for the second time. Just as lovely this time as it was the first time.
Ferns ferns ferns ferns ferns.... ferns.
I love me some ferns.
What's left of a nurse log. I always like these, it makes the trees look like they have little feet.Bark. Duh.
I know that you're probably looking at these pictures and thinking "Oh great, trees and branches n' stuff." But these were really pretty and I liked them so much I wanted to share. So try to cope. Or at least humor me for my sake.
A bit of stump. Stumpy stumpy stump.
Moi.

Diseased bark! Much differn't from OTHER bark. But you know that because you've already seen the other pictures of bark I put up. Right?

Good.

Fonky-Ass Teefs

Monty had a date with the vet today. We went to Boulevard Veterinary Clinic, right down the road. The trip was uneventful, as was the parking lot. I got inside and the vet looks like any rural vet's office anywhere. Old linoleum, pictures of grand kids on the walls and the homey smell of antiseptic laced with yelps from the back room. The old man in front of me (complete with suspenders) was picking up some version of anti-vermin pills for his dog (he was going to have to feed the little thing eleven of them within the day, we all wished him good luck on that one). An enormous short-haired German Shepherd jumped up in the back room and put his paws over the edge of the half-door. He looked happy enough so I took a deep breath and checked us in. We were ushered into the back room, Monty was doing just fine. A guy with piercings, tats and rings weighed Monty (a whopping 5.5 pounds) and then the vet came in. Monty's name is now Monteray. The old man carried on a lively conversation with Monty as he checked his teeth, pulled a huge wad of hair from between them (a new batch since I cleaned them last night) and clucked over his kickers. He called tat-man back in to put Monty into "The calming hold" that he was so fond of (grabbing his ears and with a hand under Monty's chest and lifting him half-way off the table). He pulled out what looked just like a pair of pet nail-clippers and started rooting around in the bun's mouth. SNAP! A bit of tooth went soaring through the air, pinging off of several walls and jars. Monty didn't even really blink, I flinched enough for the both of us though. Half a tooth down, three and a half more to go. Ten minutes later there were bits of tooth all around the room and Monty was getting his mouth rinsed out with a syringe full of water taken from a dixie cup. He wasn't happy, but he wasn't as worked up as I thought he should be. We were done. I got a handful of literature on "You're New Pet Rabbit" and paid the ten dollar fee (5 dollars less than they said it would be).
I got Monty home and he smelled like the vet's stale cigarette smoke. I still feel bad that he's going to have to do this ever three months or so. I cringe for the both of us.

The morning of our big day.
His Crraaazzzyyy teeth. And his slightly better teeth now. They're a little odd, I'll see how he's doing later tonight and decide whether I want to take him back there again or to a different vet.

Aberdeen and the Ocean

Dharyll and I spent the day driving to, doddling around, and then driving back from Aberdeen and the coast. I've seen the highway signs for Aberdeen and I've always been intrigued but never had a reason to go. It was supposed to rain but we decided to push our luck and go to the coast anyway, a place where if there was a chance of rain on Oly. it was almost guaranteed to rain at the beach.
So we set off for Aberdeen which is about an hour north-eastie from Olympia. Drive drive drive, and we're there. Aberdeen is a typical coastie town. A bit rundown, almost half the buildings are vacant, however there are a bunch of these metal sculptures about town. I can't figure out who made them, or why they're there, but they were really really trippy and completely random in their placement on corners, tucked in alleyways and always interesting.

Snake pipe!
When we drove into town we passed this little store:
We both HAD to go in! The very existance of this store is unbelievable.
Dharyll and Leia, kicking it on the couch, watching one of the newer Star Wars movies.

This is a video of the inside of the store. It's really only a small fraction of the Star Wars wonderland.
A Pee-Wee's playhouse action figure play set. And yes, that is a Cowboy Curtis doll on the right. I had no idea they even made these. This store made the drive completely worth it, no matter what the weather decided to do later on.
One of the sculptures in the city.
Hello deary!

Hullo!

We went on to the coast, another thirty minutes beyond Aberdeen.
You can drive a car onto the beach during the off-season and if you ignore them, the beach was perfect. There was no rain, just a few scurvy cloads and wind. I had no idea the coast was as close as it is and I think a summer trip is definitely in order.

I even found a couple whole sand dollar and even though they're already dead I didn't pick them up and take them home anyway. I just left them to make someone else's day a little brighter.

Dunes!
