Aberdeen and the Ocean
Dharyll and I spent the day driving to, doddling around, and then driving back from Aberdeen and the coast. I've seen the highway signs for Aberdeen and I've always been intrigued but never had a reason to go. It was supposed to rain but we decided to push our luck and go to the coast anyway, a place where if there was a chance of rain on Oly. it was almost guaranteed to rain at the beach. So we set off for Aberdeen which is about an hour north-eastie from Olympia. Drive drive drive, and we're there. Aberdeen is a typical coastie town. A bit rundown, almost half the buildings are vacant, however there are a bunch of these metal sculptures about town. I can't figure out who made them, or why they're there, but they were really really trippy and completely random in their placement on corners, tucked in alleyways and always interesting.
Snake pipe! When we drove into town we passed this little store: We both HAD to go in! The very existance of this store is unbelievable. Dharyll and Leia, kicking it on the couch, watching one of the newer Star Wars movies.
This is a video of the inside of the store. It's really only a small fraction of the Star Wars wonderland. A Pee-Wee's playhouse action figure play set. And yes, that is a Cowboy Curtis doll on the right. I had no idea they even made these. This store made the drive completely worth it, no matter what the weather decided to do later on. One of the sculptures in the city. Hello deary!
Hullo! We went on to the coast, another thirty minutes beyond Aberdeen. You can drive a car onto the beach during the off-season and if you ignore them, the beach was perfect. There was no rain, just a few scurvy cloads and wind. I had no idea the coast was as close as it is and I think a summer trip is definitely in order. I even found a couple whole sand dollar and even though they're already dead I didn't pick them up and take them home anyway. I just left them to make someone else's day a little brighter. Dunes!
