\Mt. Vesuvius erupted on August 24, 79 C.E. covering Pompeii and several neighboring cities with ash and poisonous gasses. The result are fairly well preserved ruins and bodies. End END result? A totally neat place to visit.
It was a beautiful (but windy) day. There were a couple of German tour groups with high school trips so we kept bumping into each other everywhere we went. The ruins, Pompeii proper, Herculaneum and Naples were full of stray dogs, just hanging out. They were a little sketchy, but friendly and looked happy enough.

The entrance to the main body of ruins.
The totally uneven streets, they were more like a pile of roughly even rocks piled together. I'm glad I wasn't in heels or anything.
Taya!
The plaster on the walls was super thick which made a big difference in these tiny rooms. The amount of work that went into the walls and tiny tiles on the floors is super impressive.
A window.
The streets of Pompeii.
Taya and Dharyll playing with a wall... endless hours of amusement.

Wall decorations (duh) on the inside of one of the houses.
And this crazy floating head.

The outside of the Amphitheater!
The inside Amphitheater.
Taya, chasing pigeons and trying to get a good picture of them. Endless hours of amusement.

A stray dog enjoying the sun in the Forum, and a view of Mt. Vesuvius in the distance.
A poor dead doggie... it looks like he was caught in the middle of the happiest roll on the ground a doggie could have, but in reality the gasses got him and he was pretty miserable in his last moments. Sad times.
Dead people who'd taken refuge in a garden when the gasses and ash hit.
The End.
Now on to Mt. Vesuvius!
