Mt. Vesuvius was the volcano that caused so much destruction in the early A.D. years. Naughty volcano!
We took a bus (30 minutes from Pompeii up some CRAZY switchbacks and one-lane roads) almost to the top of the mountain. From there we did about a thirty minute hike to the top and around the rim. The base temperature was probably around 50 degrees but with wind chill it was MUCH lower, I felt like I was breathing snow straight into my lungs. The view of Naples, Pompeii and neighboring cities was amazing, and the hike was half the fun.
The beginning of the climb.
Lava rock!
