Yesterday... a Day Like Any Other

Today we went to the Institute and Museum of the History of Science (try saying THAT one ten times fast) in Florence. It was cool. There was a room where there were wax torsos giving birth to wax babies. Most of these poor babies were contorted into all the improper positions for birthin'. They were, I think, models for medical students so that they could see what could go wrong... but in reality they made up the creepiest room I've ever stumbled on. It was pretty much a cross between the Bodies Exhibit and the baby room at OMSI. After I got used to it, the exhibit was pretty interesting, especially the ceramic, three dimensional, wall hangings of uteruses with babies coming out. I think I'd like some of those in my house.... a nice conversation piece and ice breaker.

I wish I could have gotten pictures but, as usual, pictures are strictly forbidden. AND I got to see Galileo's shrively finger. Yesssss!

On the way to the Institute we walked through a piazza with this guy in it. I thought he was neat with his gun, sweet 'stachio and little dead buddy. Not to mention the fact that he's completely different from the usual man-on-a-horse or woman-being-raped statue, I even felt a little giddy for a second.
And this is what I did in class today. We had to write down these words (Renaissance, trade routes, centralized cities, etc.) and then link them together in a concept map. Take THAT World History! You've been mapped!
